Backups are sensitive

A backup can contain enough information to recreate or compromise an installation. Protect it with the same care as the live platform.

Safe backup handling

  • Store backups outside the public web root.
  • Restrict download access to trusted administrators.
  • Use encrypted storage when available.
  • Do not email complete backups as ordinary attachments.
  • Delete outdated local copies from shared computers.
  • Test restoration using a controlled environment.

Before sharing a backup

Confirm the recipient, transfer method and exact reason the archive is required. Share only the minimum data needed for support or recovery.

Public backup files

Never leave ZIP, SQL or configuration backup files in a publicly accessible website folder.
