Why download your backup?

A backup stored only on the same server as Artist OS does not provide complete protection. Downloading the archive gives you an independent copy that remains available if the hosting account, server or installation becomes unavailable.

Important

Keep at least one recent backup outside the server where Artist OS is installed.

Open the Backup Manager

  1. Sign in to Artist OS with an administrator account.
  2. Open Administrator from the main navigation.
  3. Select Backup Manager.
  4. Locate the completed backup you want to download.

Download the archive

  1. Confirm that the backup status is shown as Completed.
  2. Click Download beside the backup entry.
  3. Choose a secure folder on your computer.
  4. Wait until the browser has finished downloading the complete file.
Do not use incomplete archives

Do not close the browser or disconnect from the internet while the file is downloading. An interrupted download may produce an archive that cannot be restored.

Verify the downloaded file

After the download is complete, perform these basic checks:

  • Confirm that the filename ends in .zip.
  • Confirm that the file size is greater than zero.
  • Compare the file size with the value shown in Backup Manager, when available.
  • Open the ZIP archive to confirm that your operating system can read it.
  • Do not change or remove files inside the archive.

A typical backup filename may look like this:

artist-os-backup-2026-07-21-14-35.zip

Store the backup securely

For reliable protection, keep more than one copy in separate locations.

LocationPurpose
Local computerFast access when maintenance or restoration is required.
Secure cloud storageProtection if your computer or local drive fails.
External driveAn additional offline copy for disaster recovery.
Recommended method

Use the 3-2-1 principle: keep three copies of important data, on two different storage types, with one copy stored away from the main system.

Protect confidential data

A backup may contain configuration details, partner information, uploaded documents and database content. Treat the archive as confidential.

  • Use storage protected by a strong password and two-factor authentication.
  • Do not send backup files through unsecured messaging services.
  • Do not place the archive in a public website folder.
  • Limit access to trusted administrators only.

When should older backups be removed?

Do not immediately delete the previous working backup after downloading a new one. Keep several restore points so you can recover from a problem that was not discovered immediately.

A practical starting point is to retain:

  • The most recent backup
  • One backup from the previous week
  • One backup from before the latest major update

Next step

Once the archive has been downloaded, verified and stored securely, it can be used as a restore point. The next guide explains how the restoration process works.
