Follow the 3-2-1 Rule

Keep at least three copies of your data, on two different storage media, with one copy stored off-site.

  • Create a backup before every update.
  • Verify backups regularly by restoring a test copy.
  • Encrypt backups containing sensitive information.
  • Keep several historical restore points.
  • Store at least one copy outside your server.
Tip

A backup is only valuable if it can be restored successfully. Schedule periodic recovery tests.
