Artist OS 1.0 – Genesis
Overview
Automatic scheduled backups create restore points at regular intervals without requiring an administrator to start each backup manually. They provide consistent protection for active Artist OS installations and reduce the risk of long gaps between backups.
Scheduled backups belong to the planned Backup Manager workflow. The controls described in this guide become available when this function is enabled in your Artist OS installation.
Why use scheduled backups?
- Backups continue even when an administrator forgets to create one manually.
- Regular restore points limit the amount of data that may be lost after a failure.
- Routine protection is easier to manage across several partner installations.
- Older backups can be removed automatically through a retention policy.
Create a separate manual backup before updates, migrations, domain changes or other important maintenance. A scheduled backup may run too early or too late to protect the exact state you need.
Choose an appropriate frequency
The correct schedule depends on how often the installation changes and how much recent work you can afford to lose.

Configure a scheduled backup
- Sign in to Artist OS with an administrator account.
- Open Administrator.
- Select Backup Manager.
- Open Scheduled Backups.
- Enable automatic backups.
- Select the frequency and preferred execution time.
- Choose which backup components should be included.
- Select the storage destination, when more than one option is available.
- Set the number of backups to retain.
- Save the schedule and confirm that its status is shown as Active.
Choose the execution time
Run backups during a quiet period whenever possible. Backup creation can temporarily increase server load, especially when the installation contains many uploads or a large database.
- Avoid peak usage hours.
- Allow enough time before other automated server jobs begin.
- Confirm the server timezone so the displayed schedule matches your expectation.
- Do not schedule several large partner installations to start at exactly the same time on shared infrastructure.
For a normally active installation, begin with one daily backup during the quietest period and keep at least seven daily restore points.
Select what is included
A complete scheduled backup may include the following components, depending on your configuration:
- Artist OS application files
- Database content
- Uploaded media and documents
- Configuration files
- Partner and White Label settings
- Branding and domain configuration
When separate file and database schedules are available, ensure both are protected. Restoring files from one date and a database from another can produce an inconsistent installation.
Set a retention policy
Retention determines how many automatic backups remain available before older archives are removed. Keeping every backup indefinitely may consume all available storage.

Store copies outside the main server
An automatic backup stored only on the same server does not protect against complete server loss. When external storage is supported, send a copy to a separate secure location.

- Separate hosting storage
- Encrypted remote server
- Regular administrator download for offline storage
Monitor scheduled backup results
Automatic does not mean maintenance-free. Review the backup history regularly and investigate failed or unusually small archives.
- Confirm that the latest run is marked Completed.
- Check that the file size is consistent with previous backups.
- Review warning or failure messages.
- Confirm that external copies are arriving at the selected destination.
- Periodically verify that an archive can be opened and restored in a safe test environment.
A successful schedule entry only confirms that the task ran. Reliable protection also requires archive verification and occasional restore testing.
Pause or change the schedule
Temporarily pause scheduled backups during server migration, major maintenance or storage changes when instructed by your system administrator. Re-enable the schedule immediately after the work is complete and create a fresh manual backup.
